I went to a Soil Association meeting about turning my part of Zone 3 London into a near self-sustaining community. It was utterly hilarious, and shows just how high in the clouds the average barmy-ist has his head. I was set to argue with the head of the UK soil association about how anything that had happened in the past year he was just tilting to his agenda, which was basically communism, but then my intrinsic shyness kicked in and I took my date (yes, really – I’m a real catch) off to the pub!
I don’t doubt the world faces potential ecological disaster and such fringe ideas are good for pushing the envelope, but they’re not day to day practical, IMHO.
